Michael Allen Stead of Wichita, Kansas went to be with His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 5, 2017 after a long struggle with FTD and Parkinson’s Disease. Mike was born in San Francisco, CA on February 22, 1943. His parents were Tom and Margaret (Mayo) Stead. In 1965, he married Jane Widdows in Grand Junction, Colorado. Mike graduated with a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado in 1967. His career lead to 21 moves, and he lived in Kansas, Wyoming, Saudi Arabia, Colorado, Libya, and California. He retired from Charles Schwab in 2009. He was a devoted father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family. Mike liked to travel, and he visited over 51 countries, mostly with his wife Jane. Much of Mike’s traveling included short-term mission trips, especially to Nigeria, which he visited several times to help AIDS widows and orphans. He also enjoyed hiking, fly fishing, skiing, and carpentry. Mike is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane; his daughter April (Stead) Byall and husband Lee, his son Daniel Stead and wife Katerina, his son David Stead and wife Lindi; his grandchildren Benjamin Byall, Isaac and wife Morgan Byall, Josiah Byall, Evangelyn Byall, Jotham Byall, and Dante Stead; his brother William Stead, and sisters Lola (Stead) Broyles and Allyndreth Stead. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Koinonia Senior Care, Amedisys Home Health and Hospice, and Reflection Living Hidden Lakes House for all the tender care they provided for Mike. Services will be held at Westside Bible Chapel at 4:00 on Monday, November 13. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westside Bible Chapel, and will be directed to the Mashaih Foundation, a home for widows and children affected by AIDS in Jos, Nigeria.
