Michael H. Brayfield

Mike Brayfield, age 80, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Mike was born on December 2, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, to Marion and Garnelle Brayfield. He spent his early years in Wichita before moving to Park City, where he attended Heights High School. He went on to graduate from Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska. On December 20, 1969, he married Joan Jillson of Lincoln, Nebraska. After living briefly in Nebraska and California, the couple settled in Park City, Kansas, where they built a life together.

Mike began his professional career in autobody repair before transitioning to the aircraft industry, where he spent many years working for Cessna, Spirit, and Boeing. A long-time resident of Park City, he lived on East Parkview and Denver streets and later in the newer developments on the east side of town. He was involved in the local community, contributing his time to Little League baseball and soccer, Fourth of July car shows, and other city events. In the 1980s, he helped create and maintain the soccer complex west of Leeker’s. Mike had a lifelong love of cars and owned more than 100 over the years — from Model A’s, Studebakers, Datsuns, 1950s Chevys to numerous trucks, VWs, Harley-Davidsons, and Hondas. He especially enjoyed customizing cars, including a 1949 Ford, a 1951 Ford truck, and his final project, a 1931 Model A.

Hardworking and always active, he could often be found working in the yard or his shop, coaching youth sports, or visiting with friends. Though quiet by nature, he led by example and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a devoted family man who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mike faced numerous health challenges throughout his life with strength and resilience, fighting until the end. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan, sister Karin, sons Brian (Julie), Brad and Matt (Emily), 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, MacKenzie. There will be a Celebration of Life at the Cozine Life Event Center at 11500 E. 21st St. N, Wichita KS, 67206 on Saturday, October 25th from 1-3pm.
