Monte's Eulogy Monte was born September 7, 1934 in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Hershel and Dorothy Boring. When he was four, his family moved to McPherson, Kansas, where his dad worked for an oil company. That year, his 7 year old brother, Jerry, was swimming with some boys at the city lake and drowned. Through this tragic event, God gave his parents hope through a Nazarene pastor who shared God's love for them. They turned to God and began attending the Nazarene church where Monte began to learn about Jesus. He often shared this life event and told of a night, soon after his brother died, when he was lying in bed alone, grieving and feeling lonely and frightened, when he suddenly saw a bright light. He looked at the foot of his bed and saw Jesus standing there. His fear was instantly gone as he was immediately filled with peace and sensed a great love. At that moment he knew Jesus was for real.
In 1941, his family moved on to Wichita, where Monte completed elementary school and intermediate. He attended East High School and was on the rifle team and the wrestling team, winning intramurals in his weight class.
Monte met his sweetheart, Marilynn Meyer, at First Church of the Nazarene when he was a sophomore. After graduating from high school in 1952, they were married in September of that year. Not long after, they moved to Winfield, where Monte worked in the oil fields. It was there that they solidified their faith and made Jesus the center of their home.
When starting their family, Marilynn and Monte moved back to Wichita, where they became involved in worshiping and serving at First Church of the Nazarene. Monte served in several areas, working in the youth group, ushering, and serving on the board for many years. He worked at Boeing until a big lay off occurred. This prompted him to go to college where he excelled and won awards for public speaking. This benefited him as he went on into several sales positions selling truck parts, food supplies, pharmaceuticals, and shoe products for Dr. Scholl's. These jobs gave him opportunities to travel throughout Kansas, which allowed him to enjoy the nature and scenery he was so fond of. He loved talking to new people, was very inquisitive, and was always ready for an adventure! As much as he enjoyed his sales positions, he turned down promotions when offered, in order to avoid moving his family. His priority was always God and family. He returned to Boeing, where he enjoyed his job as an oiler and mechanic until he retired at age 69. His coworkers always knew he was around or on his way when they heard him whistling or humming a song.
Monte shared his love for nature and sense of adventure with his girls and wife through many Saturday outings, in which he would point out interesting things about God's creation. He was an avid hunter and looked forward to hunting trips with friends and family, keeping up with the guys even into his late 70's. He loved music and enjoyed worshiping caring for backyard wildlife, and reading. He was always tinkering in the garage working on some project for himself or someone else, or repairing something for the 100th time! One of his favorite projects was restoring a 1936 Dodge pickup.
From beginning to end, through trials or good times, his heart was always beating for Jesus. One could not be around him for very long without knowing that he trusted in the goodness of God and he always testified to God's faithfulness and love toward him.
Monte was looking forward to heaven and went to be with Jesus on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at the age of 91 years. He was surrounded by family singing one of his favorite hymns as Jesus came to take him to his heavenly home. He was proceeded in death by his parents Herschel and Dorothy Boring and brother Jerry Boring. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Marilynn Boring, brother, Gerald Boring of Haysville, KS, daughters Terri Sharon (Scott) of Wichita, KS, and Kim Hopper ( Robert) of Meridian, ID, three grandsons, Jeff Sharon ( Jolie) of Wichita, KS, Andrew Sharon (Sarah) of Valley Center, KS, Derek Sharon (Tara) of Haysville, KS, and two granddaughters, Stephanie Baker (Andy) of Eagle, ID and Tracie Holstine (Kyle) of Meridian, Id., and ten great grandchildren.
