With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Nancy Ann DeMott, a joyful and enthusiastic servant of the Lord, who went home to be with Jesus on Ash Wednesday, February 18th, 2026. A devoted wife, mother, Grammy, teacher, mentor, and friend, Nancy's life was a testament to faith, service, unwavering Joy, strength and adventure. 

Nancy was born on 6/28/1935 in Wichita, KS, and lived a joyful 90 years. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Berenice Rose Whitaker and John Perry Whitaker; her two siblings, Patricia Lee Fugit and Martin Loren Whitaker; her loving husband of 42 years, Leslie Wayne "Bud" DeMott; her son David DeMott; and her grandsons Scott Hawley & Jeremy Wheeler. She is survived by her children, Diana DeMott, Pamela Sanford (PK), David Daugherty (Melissa), Barbara Murphy (Tony), Eileen Beal (Brian), Linda Stepp, and Janet Price (Mike) and many other young people whom she welcomed into her home and heart as her children. As a loving Grammy, she spent many of her happiest moments with her 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. 

Nancy graduated from North High School in 1953, Friends University in 1967, and earned graduate hours at Wichita State University, Emporia State University, and Friends University. She taught school in Wichita for 37 years, with 27 years as a kindergarten teacher at Enterprise Elementary where she joyfully strived to instill a lifelong love of learning in her students. She was later employed as Christian Education Director at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she lovingly served the Lord and her church family as a Sunday School Teacher, VBS Teacher, choir member, innovator, and storyteller. Nancy also loved volunteering in her community, serving for a time at Sedgwick County Zoo and other local organizations.

Nancy enjoyed many hobbies, including collecting miniatures, Santa Clauses, and Angels; reading; needlework; gardening; and, most of all, having adventures. She was a gifted singer and creative writer who shared many joyful stories, poems, and songs inspired by her love of life, family, and faith. 

Nancy lived a life marked by wonder, joy, adventure, and the faithful commitment to serving God and others, especially children. Her legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of her family, friends, and students for generations to come. 

A celebration of her life will be held at the Bethany United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, February 26, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. with burial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at White Chapel Cemetery.
