James "Neill" Burdett, 68, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025. Born on November 3, 1957, in Pratt, Kansas, Neill was the son of James I. Burdett and Joy M. Burdett.
Neill grew up with a passion for history, becoming an avid collector whose curiosity and love for the past never faded. He was also a devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan and could often be found cheering them on in Arrowhead whenever he had the chance.
Neill originally attended Fort Hays State University but received his bachelor's degree later in life as a graduate of Newman University in Wichita. He ultimately graduated with his teaching degree which was an accomplishment he cherished and one that reflected his lifelong love of learning and perseverance.
As an older brother, Neill was a guide, a teacher, and a constant source of curiosity and laughter. He passed down an appreciation for music and muscle cars. He carried an endless fountain of historical trivia facts, stories, and observations he loved to share with his siblings.
One of the great constants in Neill's life was his 1971 Torino Cobra. He bought his Cobra in high school when the car insurance cost him more than the car payment and kept it for the rest of his life. No matter where he lived, the car came with him, moving from town to town and through more than a few storage units.
Neill was preceded in death by his father, James I. Burdett; his mother, Joy M. Howe; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is survived by his brother, Doug Howe of Kingman, KS; his siter, Barby Biggs, and her husband, Shawn Biggs, of Pine Grove, PA: as well as his nieces, Devyn Biggs of Las Vegas, NV, and Riley Howe of Pratt, KS, and his nephew, Derek Biggs of Pine Grove, PA.
Neill leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and will forever feel the loss of his unique humor, his warm presence, and his generous heart.
In his final days, Neill was surrounded by the devoted care of those who loved him deeply. His cousin, Dusty Danler, and her husband, Joe, along with his best friend, Dane Olsen, and Dane's wife, Siggi, provided unwavering support and comfort. Their kindness meant the world to him and to our family.
Graveside service celebrating Neill's life will be at 2pm, Saturday, December, 13, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt, Kansas.
