Omer “Steve” Stevens, son of Joel and Sarah Duff Stevens, was born June 4, 1932 in Ages, Kentucky, and died peacefully at home with his beloved wife, Shirley Stevens at his side, on Feb. 18, 2016. He spread his love of music with his voice and his guitar throughout his life, both in bands and at home with family. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and with the Civil Service. He retired from civil service after 31 years. He then went to work for WalMart, store #1099, for 12 years. He and his wife Shirley enjoyed travelling and just being together. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Michael Stevens (Janet), Sharon Cropp (Bob); step-children, Barbara Forbes (Steve), Theresa Reyes (Frank), and Rick Haynes; sisters, Lorene Toler and Doris Bayley; 13 grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Sarah; brothers, Arthur, Oscar, and Earl; sisters, Bertha, Anna, Vera Ruth, and Nora; son, Gregory and step-daughter, Susan Haynes. Visitation hours will be from 8 am until the Funeral Service time of 2 pm on Thursday, Feb. 25, at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway. Memorials to: Alzheimer’s Association and Serenity Hospice.
