Patricia Mae Gibson, 99, was born on Wichita St. in Wichita, KS, and attended grade schools in Wichita until she was 10. Then the family moved south of Wichita and she attended Waco Grade School for 3 years, after which she moved to Haysville where she attended Haysville Grade School and Clearwater High School and was a member of the Haysville Methodist Church. After high school she went to Wichita University during the summers and taught at country grade schools during World War II. At age 24, she graduated from a college in Kansas City, MO, that trained young women to be Methodist Deaconesses. While a deaconess, she served in orphanages, churches and schools in Seward, AK, El Paso, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Homa, LA, and Omaha, NE. During that time, she also earned a master's degree in sociology at Northwestern University. After retiring as a deaconess, she did volunteer work by supervising the appropriating and cooking of food for the Tuesday night dinners that her church, Grace Methodist, in Wichita provided for the less fortunate until she was 90. She dedicated her life to her Christian beliefs and to those who needed help. She is survived by her brothers, Glenn Gibson of Raleigh, NC, and Dwight Gibson of Mountain Home, AR, and 19 nieces and nephews. Her other 5 siblings preceded her in death.
