Peggy Beery

Peggy Joyce Beery, 88, of Maize, Kansas, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 28, 2025. Full of love, laughter, and resilience, she touched the lives of all who knew her.

She was born on July 2, 1936, to Ufa and Nellie Durbin in Butler, Missouri, where she was raised on the family farm. She spent her first eight years in education in a one-room schoolhouse. She then graduated from Ballard High School in a class of only seven students.

In 1954, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, where she met and married Irvin Beery. They were married for 57 ½ years before Irvin passed away in 2012. Family was very important to her, and she worked selflessly to ensure her family was a priority. She was a loving and giving mother and grandmother. She always said she was blessed to be at home with us while we were young children. She then began her career in the printing and advertising industry and eventually retired while at Pioneer Balloon.

Throughout the years, her interests varied from reading, bowling, sewing, crossword and jigsaw puzzles. In her later years, she loved traveling with her sister, Carol, around the world to 34 different countries and attending as many of her grandchildren's events as she could - and always with her camera in hand. To know her was to know she was an avid Chiefs fan, and she did her best to raise the next generations to follow suit! But her anchor and hope throughout her life was her faith and trust in Jesus Christ. "I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken..." Psalm 37:25

She is survived by her daughters: Vicki (Jerry) Smith, Cindy (Karl) Bauder, and Cheryl (Dick) Holihan; her eight grandchildren: Andrew (Jill) Smith, Anna (Noah) McLaughlin, Lydia (Aaron) Cress, Leah (Nathan) LeClair, Joshua (Tiffanie) Bauder, Aaron Bauder, Lauren (Cody) Taylor, and Jillian (Luis Carlos) Agramont; and her 16 great-grandchildren: Ezra, Chloe, Harley, Rustin, Hope, Luke, Grace, Rory, Cheyenne, Samantha, Lila, Zoey, Leighton, Brynlee, and Genevieve...and one more due on the 4th of July; and her sisters, Betty Carson and Carol Bidner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Beery; her great-grandson, Tristin Robert Lee McLaughlin; her parents, Ufa and Nellie Durbin; her brothers, Marvin Durbin, Jack Durbin, Leonard Durbin; and her sister, Doris Wooley.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to KIDS (The Kansas Infant Death and SIDS Network) in memory of her great-grandson, Tristin Robert Lee McLaughlin; or to St. Jude Children's Hospital

Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2025, 9:30 a.m., followed by a celebration of her life at 10:30 a.m., at Olivet Baptist Church, 3440 W. 13th Street, Wichita, Kansas.
