Peggy was the only child born in Muskogee, OK to John P. and Mary A. Smith. The family moved to California when Peggy was nine. She grew up in Chula Vista, CA. Peggy graduated from Sweetwater High School and then attended San Diego State for two years. A blind date set up by a good friend introduced her to her best friend and the love of her life, Don Thomas. They married while Don was on leave from Korea. They recently celebrated 72 years of marriage. After years spent in California and Kansas, Don and Peggy settled in the small northwest Washington town of Ione where Peggy was a school secretary at the Ione Primary School. Don and Peggy retired to Spokane and spent over 10 years traveling with a group of friends. Peggy was an accomplished cook, seamstress, knitter, and crocheter. She was clever, smart, and oh so witty, Peggy is survived by her husband Don; children Terri Vanwey, Jenny Smith, Andy (Gwen) Thomas, Sam (Lisa) Thomas, and Pete (Becky) Thomas; grandchildren Kelly Smith, Josie Vanwey, Jacob Thomas, Quentin Thomas, David Thomas, and Carrie Thomas; great-granddaughter Charlee. Peggy was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
