Richard Dale (Richy) Dickerson

Richard Dale (Richy) Dickerson, born on July 5, 1968, in Wichita, Kansas, peacefully passed away on March 31, 2026. Richy’s journey through life was one marked by love, laughter, and a unique spirit that touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

A proud graduate of a special program at Neva King Cooper High School in Florida, Richy spent his days immersed in the PRIDE Program at Envision in Wichita. There, he found joy working alongside dedicated staff and cherished friends—people who became like family to him. Last year, he moved to the Mandala Community, where he quickly embraced the warmth of new friendships and enjoyed his new home with a heart full of gratitude.

Those who knew Richy best remember his sweet and ornery nature—a blend of affectionate charm and mischievous wit. He had a brilliant, singular intelligence and an impeccable sense of humor. An endearing prankster at heart, he could often be found pretending helplessness around new hires, always keeping those around him guessing. Many caregivers described him as their favorite, and one longtime friend, Dawn, spoke for many when she said, “He made me a better person.”

Richy’s love was felt deeply by his family, who treasure countless warm memories. They recall the gentle moments when he would come up and rest his head on their shoulders, offering a quiet connection that spoke volumes. His adventures were legendary—riding across the farm in a Kawasaki with Roger, delighting in giant loaded potatoes at Hog Wild, and cruising through the McDonald’s drive-thru and the car wash. Despite having no teeth, Richy downed his favorite meals with gusto. Family stories abound of his lightning-fast antics at mealtime, where he might help himself to someone else’s food with such speed, he could have made a great pickpocket!

Richy was a beloved son and brother, leaving behind his mother Carol Evans, stepfather Roger Evans, sister Stephani Brooks and her husband Mark Brooks, brothers Robert Dickerson Jr. and Mark Dickerson, and an extended family full of devoted nephews and nieces: Keith Kowal (Cora), Kristian Kowal (Kathy), Ethan Brooks (Alanah), Katie Brooks (fiancé, Gabriel), Joshua Brooks, and Ellie Brooks. They mourn the loss of Robert Dickerson, his father, and Kathie Eaton, his sister, whose memories live on in their hearts alongside Richy’s own enduring spirit.

As we remember Richy, we celebrate a man who was unapologetically himself—a lighthearted, affectionate soul who left a lasting imprint on everyone he met. His love and laughter will continue to resonate through the hearts of those who loved him deeply.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Richy’s life will be held on Friday, April 10, at 4:30 pm at Kensington Gardens. .
