Richard Langholz, Sr.

January 6, 1930 — October 8, 2020

Richard H. Langholz, Sr., 90, retired Boeing Finance Manager, dedicated Christian, loved and respected family man and purveyor of endless jokes, passed away Thursday, Oct. 8.  He was born January 06, 1930 in Hays, KS to Herman and Eva (Boxberger) Langholz. He grew up in Russell, KS and graduated from Russell High School in 1947 before attending the University of Kansas, graduating in 1951.  He joined the Air Force in December 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. Richard married Carolyne Carlson in 1954 and to the marriage 4 children were born:  Richard Jr., Janice, Julie and Bill.  Carolyne passed away in 1968.  In 1972 he married Claudette Berry, a widow with 4 children:  Laura, Alice, Ward and Sarah.  Through laughter, tears, work and God’s grace the two families became one family.  Claudette passed away in 2012 after nearly 40 years of marriage.  The majority of Richard’s career was spent at Boeing.  He worked in a variety of positions beginning in April 1957 and retiring as a Finance Manager for the Commercial Airplane Division in Wichita in 1995.  He never stopped learning. After retirement, he worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block. He was a faithful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was active in and served his church, First Evangelical Free Church.  He will be missed by family and friends for his quick wit, positive attitude and kindness. Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyne, second wife, Claudette; parents, Herman and Eva Langholz; and granddaughter, Katie Marie Amburgey. Survivors include his children, Richard Langholz, Jr. (Kim), Janice Langholz (Neal Eidemiller), Laura Amburgey (Jeff), Julie Prather (Jon), Alice Graddy (David), Bill Langholz (Michael), Ward Berry (Shanda), and Sarah Bonar (Warren); sisters, Ruth Nelson and Arlene Elliott; grandchildren, James, Graham, Noah, Nicholas, Megan, Mallory, Cole, Brittney, Austin, Keelyn, Braden, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Lillianna, Thoren, Baker, Makena, and Braelynn. Due to public health concerns, a Celebration of Life Service will be rescheduled at First Evangelical Free Church at a later date. Family will have a Private Graveside Service in the interim.
