Robert "Bob" Michlitsch

Robert “Bob” Michlitsch was born on December 13, 1946 in Eden, South Dakota. His family moved to Wichita, Kansas when he was six years old.

From an early age, he developed a strong work ethic and a determination to make his own way. He would ride his bicycle to work, taking on whatever jobs he could find to earn money. He caddied at Crestview Country Club, cleaned bricks, moved furniture for King Van Lines, mowed lawns, and even dug sewer trenches for his father. He never shied away from hard work, and his determination and resourcefulness were defining qualities throughout his life.

Upon graduating from Wichita North High School in 1965, he enlisted in the United States Air Force on March 30, 1967, working as an Aeromedical Specialist for three years. He advanced to the rank of Staff Sergeant on January 12, 1970 and was honorably discharged on March 29, 1973.

He completed his Electrician Apprenticeship on April 27, 1972, and built a 35 year career with Shelly Electric as a Journeyman Electrician. He was a proud member of IBEW and was highly respected by those working alongside him. A true perfectionist in his trade, he took great pride in his work and in doing things the right way.

He loved lifting weights and for a short time, he owned and operated the Penny Lounge Bar in Wichita. Among the many cars he owned, his favorite was a blue 1968 GTX with a black top.

Outside of his career, he loved fishing, camping and gardening. With his love of fishing, he caught countless fish and all his fish stories were true. Consistent with generous nature, he found even greater joy in helping someone else catch a fish rather than catching one himself.

Robert married Linda, on September 28, 1973, at Linda’s parents’ home in Valley Center, KS. Their union was blessed with two children, Craig and Tammy. Their family lost Craig at the young age of five, and Linda passed away on December 5, 2019.

Of all his accomplishments, Robert was most proud of his family. He was frugal when it came to himself, yet generous to anyone in need. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is remembered for his quiet humor, patience, and kindness, and he dedicated his life to ensuring his family and loved ones felt provided for. The legacy he created and the memories he gave us will live with us forever, through the laughter we shared and the love of fishing he instilled in all of us. 

Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Linda Michlitsch; son, Craig Michlitsch; and siblings, Lee (Josie) Michlitsch, Delbert (Jean) Michlitsch, Violet "Vi" (Shep) Shepard, Gene (Carol) Michlitsch, and Junie (David) Kiser. Bob is survived by daughter, Tammy (David) Weber; son, John Michlitsch; sister, Sandy (Charles) Coykendall; and grandchildren, Amanda (Jamen Mork) Weber, Ashlie (Tyler) Knop, Michael (Samantha) Michlitsch, and Rachel (Dalton) Wood.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00-7:00, Thursday, October 1, at the Cozine Life Events Center. Graveside service celebrating Bob's life will be at 11:00am, Friday, October 2, at Maize Park Cemetery. Immediately following the burial, there will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon from 12:00-3:00pm at, 125 N. 1st St., Stes. 2 & 3, Colwich, KS 67030.
