Ruby Rishel

Rishel, Ruby Cossaart, 96, of Wichita, KS, passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita. Ruby was born April 27, 1919, in Narka, KS, the daughter of Reuben and Ruth Cossaart. Ruby attended Emporia State University where she met the love of her life, Wilbur Rishel. They married on June 6, 1943 and the newlyweds made Wichita their home where Ruby continued her passion for teaching elementary children for over 40 years. In addition to teaching, Ruby raised four children, cared for the couple’s elderly parents, touched the lives of all her grandchildren, and was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church. Her hobbies were sewing, playing the piano, and helping others. Ruby is survived by her husband Wilbur; sons, Charles (Sandy) Rishel and Jim (Grace) Rishel; daughters, Ruth Ann (Rick) Phillips and Mary Kay (Ron) Whitaker; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents (Reuben and Ruth), brothers (Raleigh and Alvin), and one great-grandson (Neil). To celebrate Ruby’s life the visitation will be held at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 S. Broadway, in Wichita on Sunday, January, 31, 2016, from 3 – 5 pm. The funeral service will also be at Broadway Mortuary on Monday, February 1, 2016, 10:00 a.m. Memorials have been established with Wichita Children’s Home or Rainbows United.
