Ruth Haury

January 17, 1935 — December 17, 2021

Haury, Ruth Elaine

86, beloved wife and mother, entered the gates of Heaven after suffering a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease, on December 17, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Canton, KS, to John P. and Bertha (Peters) Kliewer.  She is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents, and a brother Richard Kliewer. Ruth is survived by her children Wayne Haury, Dale (Laurie) Haury and Paul (Karlen) Haury; 7 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, her sister Gerri (Roger) Schulz and brother Bruce (Marc) Kliewer. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, quiet wit, kindness, and friendship.

Ruth and Gene met at a dance in Canton, KS, after Gene returned home from the service.  They married in 1955 and spent 64 years together.  After marrying, they moved to Wichita, where they raised their three sons in whom they instilled the qualities of hard work and selfless giving.

Once the boys were out of elementary school, Ruth took pleasure in preparing and serving lunches as a school cook for USD259 at Pleasant Valley Junior High School, where she served until retirement.  Following her retirement came one of the greatest joys of her life, caring for granddaughter McKenna from the age of 2 months on.

Ruth was a member of Botanica and Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed working in the flower gardens, creating Chrismon’s for the annual Chrismon Tree, sewing, and other handiwork with her women’s group.  Her favorite pastimes included gardening and camping with friends and family.  She especially loved the mountains, wildflowers, and fall colors of Colorado and the Ozarks.  She and Gene were season ticket holders to WSU men’s basketball games.

She will be laid to rest at a later date during a private graveside service in the Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery in Lehigh, KS.
