Shannon Laura Pipes, of Augusta, KS, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 58.
Shannon was born on May 10, 1968, at Castle AFB in Merced, CA and raised in San Diego, CA. She was a beloved daughter, sister, auntie, niece and friend who brought warmth and joy to the lives of everyone who knew her. She had a wonderful sense of humor, a warm and infectious laugh, and an endless curiosity about the universe. She loved exploring the rich narratives of Native American and French history, and had a passion for the study of alien lifeforms. Shannon had a deep, lifelong love for animals that began with her childhood dogs Bunky and Snookie and her pet pig Spotty Back. She was fascinated with the beauty and mystery of nature and had a fondness for birds and frogs. She had a particularly special bond with her beloved dog, Ollie, and her cherished cat, Tiggie.
Professionally, Shannon shared her talents, intellect, and sharp eye with her community, working as a copy editor at a local San Diego magazine and newspaper. She was an inquisitive reporter who enjoyed learning about people and sharing their stories. This natural curiosity and sharp attention to detail ultimately shaped her deep passion for true crime stories and she approached every case with the same investigative drive and desire to uncover the human stories behind the headlines.
She is reunited in peace with her life partner Joseph Azer who she missed dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dennis Pipes and Francine Duggan (nee Cooley), her niece, Emily Monaster, Uncle William (Bill) Salek, Grandparents Francis (Frank) and Doris Cooley and Elihue (Pidge) and Jane Pipes.
Shannon is survived by her siblings, Noelle Murray (Joe), Kelly Nott (Jerry), Joseph Duggan (Jenna) and her adoring nieces and nephews Dean, Mara, Jerry, Harleigh, Nova Noelle and Bane. Shannon will be fondly remembered by her stepfather Charley and his wife Linda, her aunt Joanne, uncle Dave Miller, cousins Amy and Bridget Nary and Greg Miller and aunt Christina Salek.
Shannon's memory will be cherished and kept alive by her family and friends with whom she shared countless memories, deep laughter, and special moments throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Shannon's honor to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
