Shirley Brown

February 5, 1930 — October 20, 2022

Shirley Ann Brown went peacefully to her heavenly home on Thursday, October 20, 2022.  She was born on February 5, 1930, in Wichita, Kansas to Henry Buck, Jr and Grace Helen Buck (Kellogg).  Shirley is survived by her son, Robert L. Carpenter, Jr., and his wife Rebecca L. Carpenter, her daughter, Ann M. Curtright, and her husband Chris A. Curtright, as well as their father, Robert LeRoy Carpenter.  Shirley was affectionately known as “Maudie” by her treasured grandchildren: Douglas Curtright, Tyler Carpenter, Andrew Curtright and his wife Kristina, Nicole Carpenter, and Bailey Tebow and her husband Tyler, as well as her great-grandchildren: Daisy Curtright, Ella Curtright, Tryniti Bustos, Alice Curtright, Henry Curtright, Nora Curtright, Everett Tebow, and BaylerTebow.  Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Cecil R. Brown as well as her brother, C. Raymond Buck and his wife, Catherine Buck, and is survived by their children, Charles Buck, Cheryl Pedlar, Christina Buck, and F. Richard Buck along with their spouses and children.

The lives of her loved ones and countless friends were deeply touched by the constant love and kindness Shirley freely shared throughout the years.  Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 -- “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Shirley retired from Wesley Medical Center following 25 years of dedicated service as a medical technologist.  She has maintained and enjoyed life-long friendships with countless colleagues that originated at Wesley.

In addition to Shirley’s dedication to her children, grandchildren, beloved family members and friends, Shirley devoted much of her life to her faith through the ministries at Grace Baptist in Wichita as well as Bible Study Fellowship.  Her life was greatly enriched by so many friendships developed over the years as she pursued and lived her deep faith in her Lord and Savior.  It is her steadfast belief and willingness to share her salvation story that provided inspirationthroughout her life and peace for those of us who will miss her tremendously in our lives.  She recently told her family that her favorite verse has always been John 3:16 -- “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Please join us in celebrating the life of God’s precious servant and our amazing “Maudie” on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1414 West Pawnee, Wichita, Kansas followed by a brief graveside service at Greenwood Cemetary, 6231 West 47th Street South, Wichita, Kansas.   Family and friends are also invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, October 27th between the hours of 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Broadway Mortuary, 1147 South Broadway, Wichita, Kansas.
