Brito, Suzanne Rochelle Schmidt
, passed away on Saturday, February 24th after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Suzanne was born on October 1, 1957 in Tokyo, Japan to Elaine and Warren Schmidt. During her grade school days the family returned to live in Wichita after her father’s retirement from the Air Force. Suzanne graduated from Wichita Southeast High School in 1975. The friends she made while at Southeast remained her closest companions. Suzanne graduated from the University of Kansas in 1979. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and has remained a lifelong Jayhawk supporter.
Suzanne was a very active volunteer in the Junior League of Wichita, Center for the Arts, Designing Women, Wichita Art Museum and PEO. She held numerous positions in each and developed close ties with the women she worked with, many who supported her through her illness. Suzanne was extremely devoted and thankful to her bible study and book club groups who helped her through the last year. She was never idle.
Suzanne married Raul F. Brito in Wichita, KS on June 23, 1984. They made their home in Wichita and raised two wonderful children. Suzanne’s many successes through the above organizations gave her pride, but her greatest accomplishment was the upbringing of her two children. She was always proud of them. She was extremely involved in their school and extracurricular activities from preschool through college. She was always their number one teacher and cheerleader.
Suzanne was preceded in death by her father, Warren W. Schmidt. She is survived by her husband, Raul F. Brito, her daughter Mallory R. Brito of Dallas, her son Chris (Kelsey) Brito, granddaughters Lydia and Audrey Brito of Shawnee, KS., her mother Elaine Schmidt and brother Bill Schmidt of Wichita, KS., and of course her beloved Gracie-doodle. She is also survived by numerous Brito in-laws, nieces and nephews.
