Taiten “Tait” Matthew Luce was born on April 28, 2004, and welcomed by his overjoyed parents, siblings, and extended family. He lived a tragically short yet extremely full life, leaving a legacy of love and passion for the right things in the world when he went to be with his first love and Savior Jesus Christ, our King of Kings and Lord of Lords, on September 5, 2026.
Tait loved people and life from the moment he came into the world. He was fiercely loyal and devoted to his family that survives him, including his parents - Steve and Tamara Luce; siblings - Tucker, Tanner, and Trenton Luce; sister-in-laws - Sydney and Hannah Luce; nieces - Georgia and Katherine Luce, nephew - Benjamin Luce; Grandparents - Wayne and Sandra Howdeshell; Aunts - Cynthia Diller, Kembra Howdeshell, Gilda Waren, Angie Bence, Angela Howdeshell; Uncles - Justin Howdeshell, Marty Diller, Don Smith, and Daniel Luce; Cousins - Kendall Diller (Coral Diller) and Joseph McIntosh (Emily McIntosh).
Tait was homeschooled in his early years and then attended school in the Maize School District. In high school, he attended Maize South High School (MSHS) and played football for the Mavericks, serving as a team captain his senior year, during which his teammates called him “Preacher” because he loved to share about the Lord. He served as class president of the MSHS Class of 2022 for all four years of high school. He loved talking with students and adults alike and advocated for positive changes in the school during his time there. He loved acting and singing in musicals and was Aladdin in “Aladdin”, was Matt in “The Fantasticks”, and was Chad in “High School Musical". For High School Musical, Tait worked with a friend to choreograph the dance to “Getcha Head in the Game”. Because of the quality and excellence of the work they did, they won an award for “Outstanding Choreography” in Wichita’s “Music Theatre Jester Awards” that year.
Tait was a self-taught guitarist and pianist who wrote, sang, and played his own music, as well as with other artists. He posted a handful of songs on his YouTube channel and shared many more with his friends and family over time. He gave the graduation speech for the MSHS Class of 2022 at Hartman Arena and had people approach him, urging him to run for president. Little did he know at the time that he would have the opportunity to enter the political arena in his freshman year of college. From that point on, he wore different hats in political campaign work, which began to carve a path for a future he grew passionate and excited about. He hoped to work at the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka during the 2027 session so he could have a greater impact on Kansans in a positive way.
Tait never knew a stranger and was a devoted friend to all - he truly saw people without regard to anything else, from people experiencing homelessness on the street to leaders at all levels of the Kansas government, and every person in between. In his spare time, you could find Tait nerding out over Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, or DC/Marvel, reading deep philosophical books, collecting and building LEGOs, lifting weights to retain his title as the strongest brother, filling the house with his singing, playing with his childhood dog Snickers, or hanging out with his nieces and nephew.
Although his life was cut short, we are forever grateful to the Lord for the 22 ½ years we had with him; it was the greatest honor and blessing of our lives to do life with Tait. His legacy is one of true love. He knew what mattered, he lived it, and he shared it. He demonstrated the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his hope in Jesus by living it out in his daily actions.
In lieu of flowers, we request that memorial contributions be made to the Tait Luce Memorial Fund here. This fund has been established to honor Tait’s memory by providing scholarships to students who care about the same issues Tait did and supporting organizations that advance solutions to those issues. Additionally, checks can be made out to “Tait Luce Memorial Fund” and mailed to 10030 Westlakes Court, Wichita, Kansas 67205, or you may walk into any Intrust Bank branch across the state of Kansas to make a donationto the fund.
