Tammey M. Nelson

Tammey Maria Nelson was born in Swindon, England on April 4, 1958, from the union of Thomas and Deanna Nelson. She departed this life on March 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and love for her family.

Tammey graduated from Wichita East High School in 1976. Shortly after graduation, she pursued her calling in healthcare, receiving her nursing license in 1978. She went on to serve others faithfully through a remarkable 45-year career in nursing, dedicating her life to caring for those in need with skill, patience, and compassion.

Her greatest joy in life was her family. Tammey was blessed with children of her own and also opened her home and heart as a foster parent, later adopting several children and raising them as her own. Through this selfless commitment, she created a family rooted in love, guidance, and protection.

Tammey was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Nelson Sr., in 2011. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Deanna Nelson of Wichita, Kansas; her daughter, Dominique Nelson of Wichita, Kansas, and her son, Darcus Wickliffe of Wichita, Kansas. Through her dedication as a foster parent, she lovingly welcomed additional children into her life and later adopted them as her own: Sasha Nelson, Aaliyah Nelson, Alandrea Nelson, Ronnie Nelson, and Leo Nelson, all of Wichita, Kansas.

She is also survived by her sister, Tailinda M. Nelson of Wichita, Kansas; her brothers, Thomas L. Nelson, Jr. of Anchorage, Alaska, Timothy L. Nelson (Tracey) of Southampton, Pennsylvania, and Theodore L. Nelson (Hillary) of Wichita, Kansas; along with her beloved grandchildren, extended family members, colleagues, and many friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity.

Tammey will be remembered as a woman whose heart was large enough to create family wherever love was needed. Her legacy lives on in the children she raised, the patients she cared for, and the compassion she showed to all who crossed her path. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1 pm, Saturday, March 14, at In God’s Hands Church, 1108 N. Oliver.

Her life was defined by service, her love was shown through action, and the impact of her care will continue to live on through every life she touched.
