Thane E. Chastain

Thane E. Chastain, 62, devoted son, brother, uncle, mentor, leader, friend, and dog-owner was born on August 27, 1960, and passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

Visitation with friends and family will be from 6:00-8:00 pm on Friday, March 3, at the Cozine Life Events Center, 11500 E. 21st St. N., and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, March 4, at Wichita First United Methodist Church, 330 North Broadway. Burial and Memorial information will be shared soon.

Thane was born in Hutchinson, KS, and raised in Haven, Sterling, and Pratt, Kansas, graduating from Pratt High School in 1978. Thane’s love for technology, fine arts, and public speaking began at an early age when he would tag along to his father’s “Antique Records” music show recordings at a local radio station and continued to manifest throughout his life in all his many endeavors. Thane developed both his skills in technology and his passion for people that culminated at the *Kansas Leadership Center where he was the Director of Virtual Learning and Engagement.

With a B.A. in History and Communication from Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas, and a Master’s in Mass Communication from Wichita State University, Thane worked in youth ministry, sales, radio, television, and at the college and university level in teaching and administration. As a volunteer and consultant, he played key roles over the past dozen years in the ever-growing Tallgrass Film Festival, held in late September each year in downtown Wichita. He also volunteered many years for the American Legion Kansas Boys State and currently served as Dean of Special Projects with American Legion Jersey Boys State. Thane was involved in many other organizations and groups throughout the community, more than can be included in one list.

Thane’s work and life made an impact that reached around the globe. He was known for his intentionality and generosity with each person he met. While he left us too soon, his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched. Thane was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Phillip E. Chastain. He is survived by his mother, E. Jane Chastain, brother and sister-in-law, Shawn and Debbie Chastain and their children Lindsey, Eric, and Elsie.
