Thomas Broderick, Jr

May 19, 1926 — January 29, 2015

Broderick, Thomas Henry Jr., 88, passed away Jan. 29, 2015. Visitation 6 p.m. with Rosary 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at Broadway Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was born on May 19, 1926, to Thomas Henry Broderick, Sr. and Nondas Pauline Roberts-Broderick. He grew up in Chicago attending Catholic schools. Tom was very proud to be 1 of 8, 1st students at Fornier Military Academy and was also proud of his Irish heritage. In April 1944, Tom enlisted in the Navy, and served honorably until his discharge in August of 1946. He attended the University of Michigan and graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in theatrical arts. After graduation, he returned to Chicago to marry Laurel Valentine Baron-Broderick in 1949, and then moved to Wichita in 1950, with their first child, Kathryn. Rebecca was born in 1951, Thomas in 1952, and David in 1956. During their marriage of 49 years, Tom’s artistic creativity showed his many faces. He drew the plans for the house he lived in until his death, as well as other plans, including his oldest son’s house built in 1990. Photography became one of his passions, owning many different cameras and shooting a number of portraits for family and friends. This lasted well into his retirement. Since his degree was in theatrical arts, he never lost the desire to act in and direct stage productions. He was involved in Wichita Children’s Theater, Community Theater of Wichita, and during his career in advertising, produced trade show productions for companies such as KG&E, Cessna, and Beech Aircraft, in addition to producing commercials for KAKE TV. In 2001, Tom married his second wife, Joyce Ann Neona Clauson-Hartman-Broderick and they have been active during retirement, spending quality time with family, friends, and God. Tom was dedicated to his weekly hour of prayer at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Adoration Chapel. This was his time to remember and thank God for the blessings He had provided, and lift up his family and friends asking for God’s abundant love and mercy upon their lives. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laurel; his two sisters, Polly Lesauskas and Sally Mulhall. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ann of Wichita; two brothers, David (Peggy) Broderick of Louisville, KY, and Philip Broderick of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one sister, Theresa O’Neal of Otisco, IN; four children, Kathryn L. (Greg) Michot of Wichita, Rebecca K. (Jack) Sizemore of Huntsville, AL, Thomas M. (Vicki) Broderick of Wichita, and David A.J. (Kathleen) Broderick of El Dorado; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services by Broadway Mortuary. wwww.CozineMemorial.com
