Tonda Kay Sharp, 71, went to be with the Lord suddenly on Friday, March 25, 2022. Tonda was a loving daughter, sister, and mother of five children, and grandmother to eight grandchildren (David Schulte, Alex Schulte, Ben Schulte, Morgan Woods, Zack Woods, Nathan Woods, Aaron Woods, Jennifer Church), one great grandchild (Carter), and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews. (Tonda posted in Facebook on January 5, 2022 “My grandchildren are a window to my past, a mirror of today, and door of the future, and the keeper of my heart.”)
Tonda was born on October 2, 1950 in Winfield, Kansas, to Lemuel and Delia (Malone) Maynard. She lived in Arkansas City, Kansas growing up, then moved to Wichita in 1974 where she met and married the love of her life, Bob Carmichael, who is now deceased.
Tonda was preceded in death by her late husband, Bob Carmichael, her daughter, Sheila Church, brother, David Maynard, and her father, Lemuel Maynard. She is survived by her dearly loved companion, Doug Samuelson of Great Bend, Kansas, and four of her children, Kristina Schulte (Mark) of Sedgwick, Kansas; Patsy Woods (Jeff) of Pittsburgh, Kansas; Debbie Brandon, and Tim Monasmith (Ann) of Park City, Kansas; mother, Adelia Maynard of Wichita, Kansas; and five siblings, Mike Maynard (Terri) Sebring, Florida; Roxie Herrman (Harvey) of Wichita, Kansas; Connie Jordan (Matthew) of Hutchinson, Kansas; Vickie Fleming (Ed) of Wichita, Kansas; and J.R. Maynard of Wichita, Kansas.
Tonda loved Jesus, her Yorkie dogs (Ears I and Amy [gone to doggie heaven] and Ears II). She also loved to send greeting cards to her siblings, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We will all miss receiving her beautiful cards in the mail, and the United States Postal Service will certainly miss her.
Tonda posted this on Facebook in October 2021. “The Lord laid this in my heart.” Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentations 3:22-24. As I scrolled through her Facebook over the last couple of days, there were many postings about Jesus, His love, and her love for her family friends.
As the EMS attendants were wheeling Tonda out to the ambulance it was told that she lifted her arm up. She posted in Facebook on January 5, 2022: “until my last breath, I will praise thee God.” (Many times Tonda lifted her arm to praise the Lord.)
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9. Tonda is right now seeing and hearing all the things which God has prepared for her. Hallelujah!
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at Country Acres Baptist Church, 8810 W. 10th Street, Wichita, Kansas, at 10:30 a.m. Flowers may be sent to Country Acres Baptist Church.
