Viola Sue Nicholas, age 82, entered God's presence on July 11, 2026.
Sue lived a life defined by devotion, humor, and an unwavering instinct to stand up for those who needed someone in their corner. Sue was born on August 12, 1943, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Her family later moved to Wichita, Kansas where she made her home. She built a world centered around family, friends, and the countless children whose lives she touched.
As a wife and the mother of three, Sue poured herself into her family with a fierce, joyful energy. She was the kind of mom who showed up — at concerts, church and school plays, sports events — cheering loudly, encouraging wholeheartedly, and making sure her kids always knew she was there. Her home was a place of laughter and mischief, thanks in part to her well‑known streak as a prankster. If you knew Sue, you knew she loved a good joke and had a knack for catching people off guard with her playful spirit.
Her heart for children extended far beyond her own family. For more than 30 years, Sue ran a home daycare, creating a safe, loving, and lively space where little ones were nurtured, taught, and celebrated. Generations of families trusted her, and countless children grew up with her steady presence shaping their earliest years. She had a gift for making every child feel important, protected, and loved.
She leaves behind her son, Bill (Amy) Nicholas; daughters, Christy (Randy) Baty and Peggi Nicholas; grandchildren, Dillon, Hannah, Miranda, Gideon and great-grandchildren, Kya and Kenzie; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Nicholas; parents, Lester and Pauline (Allen) Ferrill; brothers, Art Ferrill and Dave Ferrill; and grandchild, Dalton.
Graveside Services will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Kensington Gardens Cemetery, 11500 E. 21st St. N. Sue's life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
