Warren Applegate

Warren Applegate, a dedicated Commercial Real Estate Appraiser with a specialization in golf courses and storage units, passed away on June 23, 2024. Warren's life was marked by resilience, humor, and a relentless passion for life.

Born on December 14, 1945, Warren led a life filled with remarkable achievements and profound experiences. His academic journey took him through Wichita State University and the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance. Additionally, Warren earned a master’s degree.

Warren's unwavering commitment to his country was exemplified during his service as a Medevac (Dustoff) Helicopter Pilot in Vietnam. His courageous actions led to being awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroism in evacuating wounded servicemen amidst perilous conditions. Despite sustaining injuries that cut short his overseas tour of duty and altered his career trajectory, Warren continued to share his love for flying as an instructor in the Army Reserves and Arizona National Guard.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Warren was deeply involved in coaching wrestling and nurturing young talents in the sport. His instructional book "Basic Wrestling Fundamentals" stands as a testament to his dedication to fostering the next generation of wrestlers. From serving as head wrestling coach at various institutions to imparting valuable lessons to aspiring athletes, Warren's impact on the wrestling community was profound.

Warren's zest for life extended beyond his professional commitments. A sports enthusiast and avid reader, he found joy in watching sports games and diving into books on historical events. His undying loyalty to OU football showcased his unwavering spirit and passion for the game.

In his personal life, Warren cherished spending time with family during annual Christmas gatherings filled with competitive games like Monopoly, Scrabble, Dominoes, Risk, and Connect 4. Despite being a lifelong bachelor, Warren found solace and joy in these moments of togetherness with loved ones. Realizing that something important was missing in his life, Warren recently accepted Christ and was baptized.

The family would like to thank Loretta Whiting of VA Medical Foster Home for the excellent care that she and her team provided to Warren over the past couple of years.

Warren will be dearly missed by his surviving family including Brenda Granger (sister), Jeff Granger (brother-in-law), Noah Granger and Levi Granger (nephews). He is preceded in death by Don & Emma Applegate (parents), Mel Applegate and Roger Applegate (brothers), and Lynda Applegate (sister).

A memorial service honoring Warren's remarkable life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 13, at the Cozine Life Events Center.

Warren's legacy of courage, dedication, and humor will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege to know him. May he rest in peace knowing that his impact on others will endure for generations to come.
